GLUTEN-FREE BURGOS

There are many special things in Burgos that make it a nice town for visiting: the gothic Cathedral, the Human Evolution Museum, the archaeological site of Atapuerca, the road to Santiago, their wines...

Regarding the gluten-free issue, the Burgos Coeliacs Association published a hotels and restaurants guide with a wide offer in the capital and the surroundings, and also has a map on its web with the location of other places proposed by their members.
We spent last weekend in Burgos, therefore we had the opportunity to try three of them:

They have gluten-free bread and gluten-free dishes are marked in the menu. But I was a bit disappointed because my meat was too simple, without any sauce or side dish, and fruit was the single option for dessert. In my opinion, it is just correct.

It is an informal restaurant, in front of the cathedral, where ALL the menu could be adapted for coeliacs. There were salads, hamburgers, sandwiches and a very cheap Pilgrim’s menu (only for accredited pilgrims). It was a pleasure to have a sandwich with chips and a big piece of carrot cake; the only objection was not to have GF beer.

We had a fantastic lunch at this restaurant after visiting the archaeological site of Atapuerca. The ambient was comfortable, the meal was great – they knew perfectly the gluten-free diet, almost everything in the menu was gluten-free, and the prices were not too high.

And finally, we went to a gluten-free bakery opened only few days ago, on March the 1stCeli&Cia. Their cakes were so delicious that we didn’t even have time to take photographs :)

  1. yo cuando fui a conocer Burgos sin gluten , recién sacado el mapita, fue un autentico desastre y asi se lo manifesté a la asociacion, que estaba al tanto de todo, me alegro que haya mejorado
